A quiet week: Arizona's ballot is settled, Utah and Louisiana still pending

Nothing new I could verify this week. Where Arizona, Utah Fits All and Louisiana GATOR stand, plus a few quick hits.

By Janae McGee · Published

Hi friends — Janae here. After fifteen years as a school registrar, I can tell you that a quiet week in ESA land is a gift. Nothing new landed on my desk that I could confirm against an official source, so instead of padding this out, I'm going to walk you through the three things I keep watching and where each one stands.

Arizona's November ballot is settled

If you've been following the fight over ESA changes, here's the short version. Court rulings this summer took two measures off the November ballot: the Protect Education Act (Prop 212), because it fell short of the valid signatures it needed, and HCR 2048 (Prop 145), because the court found it broke the single-subject rule. That means Arizona voters will not be deciding either one this fall.

What it means for your family: your Arizona ESA rules are the same ones you are following today. Nothing in those two measures changes your account for this school year.

One action: keep following the current ESA handbook and your ClassWallet category list, and save receipts and notes the way you already do.

Utah Fits All is still waiting on the Supreme Court

The Utah Supreme Court has not yet ruled on whether Fits All is constitutional, and the program keeps running while the appeal is pending. A legislative review of how the program's money was spent came out in mid-September, and I'll read the details before I say more about it.

What it means for your family: if you're in Utah, you can keep using your account as normal, but a ruling could come at any time.

One action: keep your learning plan and purchase records tidy, and don't plan to spend your whole balance on one big purchase late in the year.

Louisiana GATOR: check your own account

I could not find a fresh official update on 2026-27 award notifications this week, so I won't guess. Awards depend on legislative funding, and being eligible does not mean every applicant receives a scholarship.

One action: log in to your Odyssey account and read the status message there, and check your email for notices from the Louisiana Department of Education.

Quick hits

  • Alabama: news coverage reported that CHOOSE Act accounts were funded for 2026-27 after a record number of applications. Check your ClassWallet balance if you applied.
  • Texas: a secondary guide says TEFA private school families get installments through the school year, with a second one expected in October. Please confirm the schedule on your own program portal, since I have not verified it with the state.
  • Homeschool law: I did not find any confirmed changes to notice, testing or recordkeeping rules this week.

Until next Monday, keep your receipts, ask questions early, and be kind to yourself. You're doing a good job.
