Recording test scores

_In the app: `/test-scores`_

Log standardized test results (SAT, ACT, CAT, Iowa, and others) for state compliance checks and high-school transcripts. Each test ties to a student and school year.

How to

Log a standardized test

  1. Go to Tests in the left sidebar.
  2. Use the Student and School year dropdowns at the top to select who took the test and when (required).
  3. Click '+ Log a test' to open the form.
  4. In the Test field, either pick a test from the list (SAT, ACT, CAT-E, etc.) or click 'Not listed? Type a custom test name' to enter a test name that's not in the catalog.
  5. Fill in Test form (optional) — for example, 'CAT-E Survey' or 'Form 7'.
  6. Enter the Date taken (defaults to today).
  7. Enter the Grade level at test — for example, '9' or 'high school'.
  8. Enter Administered by (optional) — the evaluator name if the test was proctored by someone other than a family member.
  9. Enter Composite score (optional) and pick its type — Percentile, Percentile rank, Scaled, Raw, Grade equivalent, or Stanine.
  10. Add subject breakdown (optional) by entering the subject name, score, score type, and percentile for each subject. Click '+ Add a subject row' to add more subjects.
  11. If this test satisfies a state compliance requirement, pick the requirement from the 'Satisfies a compliance requirement?' dropdown (only visible if you have active compliance targets for the school year).
  12. Upload a copy of the score report (optional) — click 'Upload score report' and select an image or PDF (up to 25 MB).
  13. Add notes (optional).
  14. Click Save.

View recorded tests

  1. Go to Tests.
  2. Use the Student dropdown to see tests for a specific student.
  3. Use the School year dropdown to filter by year.
  4. Click Update to apply the filter.
  5. Tests appear in a list, ordered by date taken (newest first).
  6. Each test card shows the test name, date taken, grade level, school year, and (if applicable) who administered it.
  7. If a composite score was recorded, it displays below the test date.
  8. If subject scores were recorded, they appear as a list of subjects with their scores and score types.
  9. Green badges show if the test counts for compliance or has an attached report.

Open a test report

  1. Go to Tests.
  2. Find the test with an attached report — it will have an 'Open report' button and a 'Has document' badge.
  3. Click 'Open report' to view the PDF or image in a new tab (signed link, valid for 1 hour).

Delete a test

  1. Go to Tests.
  2. Find the test you want to remove.
  3. Click the Delete button on the right side of the test card.
  4. Confirm by clicking Confirm.
  5. If the test had an attached report, the file is also deleted from your storage.

Connect a test to a compliance requirement

  1. Go to Tests.
  2. Open '+ Log a test' (or while creating a new test).
  3. Fill in all required fields.
  4. Scroll to 'Satisfies a compliance requirement?' — this dropdown only appears if you have compliance targets set up for the selected school year.
  5. Pick the requirement this test satisfies.
  6. Complete the form and click Save.
  7. The test will now show a 'Counts for compliance' badge. The compliance log is automatically updated with the test date.

Common questions

Do I have to log all tests my student takes?

No. Log only the standardized tests you want to keep on record for compliance or transcripts. One-off quizzes or practice tests don't need to be logged here.

What test providers are in the list?

The list includes major standardized tests like SAT, ACT, PSAT, CAT, Iowa, and others. If your test isn't listed, click 'Not listed? Type a custom test name' and enter the test name manually.

Can I edit a test after logging it?

Not directly. Delete the test and log it again with corrected information.

What file types can I upload for a score report?

Images (JPG, PNG, etc.) or PDFs. Maximum file size is 25 MB. The report is stored securely in your family file and stays private.

Why does 'Satisfies a compliance requirement?' sometimes not show up?

This dropdown only appears if you've set up compliance targets for the selected school year. Compliance targets are usually state-mandated testing requirements. Go to Compliance to see if your state has any active requirements.

How long are uploaded reports accessible?

Uploaded reports can be opened via the 'Open report' button. The link to view the report is valid for 1 hour at a time — you can open it again anytime from the test card.

Good to know

  • If no tests show up after you think you logged one, check the Student and School year filters at the top — the test only appears if you're viewing the right student and year.
  • Grade level at test is a free-text field, not a dropdown. Enter it however you like — '9', 'high school', 'grade 9', 'Grade 9', etc. all work.
  • Composite score is optional. If the test only reports subject-level scores, you can skip this and just fill in the subject breakdown.
  • If you log a test that satisfies a compliance requirement, the compliance log automatically updates with that date — you don't log the requirement separately.
  • The test provider list shows shorthand (e.g., 'SAT — SAT') in the dropdown. The full name is stored with the test.
