Unit studies

Unit studies are multi-subject, ready-to-print homeschool curriculum bundled à la carte from $9.99, or included in the Family plan (18 per year). Parents browse the catalog, claim included studies free, or buy extras with volume pricing.

How to

Browse and filter the unit studies catalog

Go to /unit-studies (or click 'Browse the catalog' from /my-unit-studies).
Use the Subject and Grade filter chips to narrow the list (both facets compose — filtering by subject keeps the grade filter active, and vice versa).
Read the pricing strip at the top: single = $9.99, 3-pack = $25.00 ($8.33/ea), 5-pack = $40.00 ($8/ea), 10-pack = $75.00 ($7.50/ea), 20-pack = $130.00 ($6.50/ea).
Click any study card to view its full details.

View a unit study's details and preview

Navigate to a study detail page (e.g., /unit-studies/[slug]).
Review the cover image, title, subtitle, grade range, weeks, page count, and subjects.
Read the description (formatted text).
If a sample is available, click 'Preview a sample (PDF)' to download a 3-page watermarked preview.
See the price and add-to-cart options in the gray box on the right.

Claim a unit study free with the Family plan

Sign in with your Family-plan account.
Navigate to a study detail page.
In the price box, click 'Add to my plan (free)' (visible only to Family members with remaining included picks).
The study is added immediately; a success toast says 'Added to your plan — find it in My unit studies.'
Go to /my-unit-studies to see it in Your library section.

Add a unit study to your cart (à la carte)

Navigate to any study detail page.
Click 'Add to cart' in the price box.
Continue browsing and add more studies as desired — each can be added once.
Click the cart icon (or navigate to /unit-studies/cart) to review your cart.

Review and modify your cart before checkout

Go to /unit-studies/cart.
See all items, their individual prices, and the volume-bucket pricing applied.
See your savings vs. single pricing (if applicable).
If available, see a nudge to add more studies to reach the next volume bucket (e.g., 'Add 1 more to reach $75.00 for 10').
Remove any study by clicking 'Remove' next to it.
Enter your email address (no account required).
Complete the Cloudflare Turnstile verification if prompted.

Checkout and pay for à la carte studies

In your cart at /unit-studies/cart, enter your email address.
Complete Turnstile verification.
Click 'Check out — [total]' to start Stripe Checkout.
Complete payment in the Stripe session.
You'll be redirected to /unit-studies/download?session_id=... with all your study PDFs ready.

Download purchased studies and view your receipt

After payment, you land on the download page showing all studies in your order.
Click 'Download PDF' next to each study to download the master PDF to your device.
If an itemized receipt is available, click 'Download itemized receipt (PDF)' — formatted for ESA reimbursement with list prices, volume discount, and total paid.
Save both files to your device for long-term access.
If you're signed in, you'll see 'Saved to your account' confirming the studies are in /my-unit-studies for unlimited re-download.
If you're not signed in, you'll see an invite to create a free account with your email so these studies appear in /my-unit-studies for unlimited re-download.

Access your library and manage your unit studies

Sign in and go to /my-unit-studies (or click 'My unit studies' from the app sidebar).
See an 'Included with your Family plan' section (if you're on a Family plan) showing remaining included picks and when they reset.
See your 'Your library' section listing all owned studies (both included and purchased) with badges.
Click 'Download' on any study to download the PDF.
See a 'Shared by your co-op' section if your co-op has added studies to its shared shelf.

Understand the Family plan included benefit

Enroll in a Family plan (family_monthly or family_annual).
You receive 18 included unit-study picks per plan year.
For family_monthly: you accrue 2 picks per billing period, capped at 18 total (active spenders can collect ~24 per year).
For family_annual: you get 18 upfront and reset to 18 on each annual renewal (no rollover).
Visit /unit-studies, click any study, and click 'Add to my plan (free)' to claim a study against your allowance.
Once you've used all your included picks, you can still buy more from the catalog at subscriber-discount prices (30% off à la carte).
On /my-unit-studies, see 'You have [N] included picks left' and the reset date.

Create an account after a purchase (email-based claiming)

After checkout as a guest, you'll see 'Create a free account' on the download page.
Click the button and navigate to /signup with your email address.
Create your password and complete signup.
Your purchased studies are now claimed into your family library automatically.
Visit /my-unit-studies to see them labeled 'Purchased'.

Common questions

Can I buy just one unit study?

Yes. Single studies cost $9.99 each. You don't need an account — enter your email at checkout and you'll get a download link immediately.

Is there a better price if I buy more?

Yes. Volume pricing reduces the per-unit cost: 3-pack = $8.33/ea, 5-pack = $8/ea, 10-pack = $7.50/ea, and 20-pack = $6.50/ea. Your cart shows the best bucket for your quantity and nudges you toward the next savings tier.

What do I get with the Family plan's 18 included studies?

Each plan year, you can claim 18 unit studies at no extra cost. On monthly plans, you accrue 2 per billing period (capped at 18 unspent). On annual plans, you get 18 upfront and reset to 18 at renewal. Included studies don't roll over.

Can I buy extra studies beyond my 18 included?

Yes. Once you've claimed your 18, you can buy more at a 30% subscriber discount (off the à la carte price). On the cart, Family members see a 'Family member price' tag showing the discounted total.

Can I get my money back for the ESA reimbursement?

Your download page includes an 'Download itemized receipt (PDF)' link. This itemized invoice lists each study at list price, the volume discount applied, and the total paid — formatted for ESA submission. Save and submit this to your ESA provider.

Can I preview a study before buying?

Yes. If the author provided a sample, the study detail page shows 'Preview a sample (PDF)' — a 3-page watermarked excerpt. Not all studies have samples.

What happens to my download link after I buy?

Download links are valid for 1 year. For long-term access, create a free account with the email you used at checkout — your studies will be claimed into your library automatically and available for re-download anytime in /my-unit-studies.

Can my co-op share unit studies with members?

Yes. Co-op admins can add studies to the co-op's shared shelf (18 included per year). All co-op members see these studies in the 'Shared by your co-op' section on /my-unit-studies and can download them.

Good to know

Included picks do not roll over. On annual plans, you get 18 per year and reset to 18 at renewal. On monthly plans, you accrue 2 per billing period (capped at 18), and unclaimed picks don't carry to the next period.
If you're a guest (no account) and checkout, your studies are tied to the email you entered. You'll get a 1-year download link, but for unlimited re-download, you must create an account with that email after purchase.
The cart is client-side (localStorage). If you clear browser data or switch browsers, your cart items disappear. The server validates all items and pricing at checkout.
Each study can be added to the cart at most once. Clicking 'Add to cart' again on the same study does nothing.
Family member pricing (30% discount on extras) only applies if you're signed in and on a Family plan. Pricing is recomputed server-side at checkout based on your current membership, never based on client hints.
Samples (if provided) are the first 3 pages only, watermarked with 'ArborSlate · SAMPLE' diagonally and 'Preview' footer. They are not the full study.
Co-op shared-shelf studies are separate from your own library — they're labeled with the co-op name and available only while you're a co-op member.

Plans

Included studies (18 per year) are available on the Family plan tier only (family_monthly and family_annual). Non-Family subscribers and free users can purchase studies à la carte. Co-op members get access to a co-op shared shelf of studies added by their co-op admin.
