What is the Alabama CHOOSE Act ESA?
Administered by the Alabama Department of Revenue via ClassWallet. Home-education families are eligible at the reduced award; 2026-27 deposits begin July 1, 2026. All purchases run through ClassWallet — the program has no reimbursement option, and unspent funds return to the CHOOSE Act Fund at year end (no rollover). 2026-27 new applicants: income cap 300% FPL; the program goes universal (no income cap) starting 2027-28. It's an education savings account program; funds are managed through ClassWallet. Approximate award: ~$7,000 (participating school) / ~$2,000 (home education, max $4,000/family). Can I use Alabama ESA funds for homeschool record-keeping software?
CHOOSE Act ESA purchases run only through ClassWallet's approved vendors — the program has no reimbursement option, so a tool is usable only if its vendor is program-approved. How do CHOOSE Act ESA payments actually work?
Everything runs through ClassWallet: you either pay an approved education service provider directly ("Pay Vendor") or buy approved items in the ClassWallet marketplace.
